Being the CEO or a principal in your firm can be a lonely job.  Just finding someone to bounce an idea off of can be daunting.  Personnel issues or benefits are never easy to discuss.  Discussions on firm direction or changes in markets can be challenging.  Being responsible for the health of your firm and the welfare of your employees can keep anyone up at night.  

Let’s talk about it
The ACEC/Iowa CEO workshop on November 15, in Des Moines provides an opportunity to discuss business issues facing Iowa firms.  The workshop is open to ACEC Iowa CEOs or principals in your firm who you believe would benefit from participating in an open discussion of business trends and challenges.

Leading the discussion
Our facilitator will be Rod Hoffman of S&H Consultants.  Rod has facilitated the Iowa program and has been a frequent presenter at our conferences.  Always to great reviews.  

Rod Hoffman, PE is co-founder of S & H Consulting, a management consulting firm with expertise in leadership development, strategic planning, change management, and business marketing. He works with firms to develop national and international business strategies. He served as a faculty member for the ACEC Senior Executive Institute (SEI), a curriculum for developing leaders in the A/E/C consulting industry. He has served on the ACEC National Executive Committee as Senior Vice Chair, is an ACEC Fellow, served on National Planning Cabinet, and is past Chair of the Institute for Business Management (IBM) Committee. 

What’s happening in our industry
Rod participated in a year-long study of firms in our industry that have successfully transitioned top leadership of their firms, some in to their fourth generation of change. The results culminated in the book “The Leadership Succession Lifecycle in Best Practice Firms.” Rod has also delved into how the size of firms have changed, looking at 35 years of data from Engineering New Record with some surprising results - midsize firms are thriving and far from being endangered. 

Your response and participation will steer the conversation
Rod will share what he has learned but he will also provide a forum for our members to learn from one another.  To help steer that conversation he is asking you to respond to just six questions.  The purpose of the questions is to gather information from Iowa CEOs or their designees to compare their perspectives to those of our clients.  Rod will present a brief client’s trends summary to our members as a first step in the CEO workshop in order to generate a robust list of topics for discussion on November 15, 2022.
